PARADOR LA CASA ESCUELA
Parador La Casa Escuela is a property of peace and comfort. It is situated in the community of La Mesilla only 30 minutes from Santa Fe and steps from sacred Indian land and the Rio Grande. The views from the southwest are glorious: Black Mesa, Pajarito Plateau and the Bosque of the Rio Grande River, with the Jemez mountains beyond. This is an ancient land yet also modern with the 18 Hole Black Mesa Golf Course and Dreamcatcher Cinema only a 5 minute drive away.

The house itself is luxurious and sophisticated, one of the first passive solar buildings designed by the Chicago architect, William Keck. The house has 14’ clerestory windows facing south and east that cool the house in the summer and retain warmth in the winter. It is finely furnished with Navajo and oriental rugs, antiques, paintings and art pieces. The original house was built in 1942 as the schoolhouse in Los Alamos for the Manhattan project. After a stint as a jazz club/coffee house the building was divided into four pieces and moved fifty miles down the hill to the present site and reconstructed as a private residence in the 1960’s. It still has many of the antiques from the war era and the early turn of the century. The house is spacious with two wings each having a master bedroom suite (one includes a Jacuzzi tub and cedarwood sauna) and 2 other bedrooms and an additional bathroom. In the center is a spacious, finely furnished living room with fireplace, an enclosed large sun room leading onto a patio and garden with hot tub and expansive views, a dining room with a fireplace and wet bar, and a huge gourmet copper kitchen with a computer nook. The kitchen has a very large refrigerator and freezer, a 4-burner restaurant size stove top peninsula, double oven, dishwasher, microwave & toaster-oven. There are 2 washers and dryers in the house, one in each wing.

The bedrooms and bathrooms are furnished and decorated in different styles – the original wing has many antiques, and the remodeled wing, which was the original schoolroom, has many artistic features, including a loft bedroom that has an antique Japanese Tansu chest as the staircase to the sleeping loft.

The owner is a successful Florida landscaper who has already put his artistic touch on the property with dry stacked moss rock walls, massive wood Pergola, and flagstone patio.

You can stroll to the Rio Grande River across fields and through the cottonwood trees of the bosque.

Beds: 4 queen size, 1 full size, 1 single, (additional futons available). The beds are therapeudic memory foam or Beauty Rest featherbed mattresses.

Parador La Casa Esquela is 30 minutes from Santa Fe and Los Alamos and 45 minutes from Taos.
